About Karanji Lake Nature Park

Karanji Lake is one of the oldest urban lakes of Mysuru. It spreads over 90 acres of land and is more than 100 year old. Like most of urban lakes of our country, this lake too was dumping ground for municipal waste. In order to protect it and develop it, this lake was handed over to Mysuru Zoo during the year 1976. Since then, Lake has seen many positive changes; it has been transformed from waste dumping ground to living aquatic ecosystem, rain water harvesting pond and abode of urban wildlife. Every year the Nature Park receives 3lakh visitors. It has many visitor facilities and also has transformed into centre of nature education. It has the following amenities,
